Talking to Friends and Relatives About MLM

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on April 17th, 2007

Most MLM and network marketing training emphasizes the importance of talking to your friends and relatives (your warm market) first. This is thought to be the best way to get started. In many cases, this is absolutely true. However, some people new to the business are hesitant to do this. If they have been involved with network marketing businesses before, and have approached their warm market more than once, they probably feel really awkward doing it again. Or, they may have the desire to “prove themselves” before approaching friends and relatives.

Whatever the reason, it is perfectly okay to build your network marketing or MLM business outside your warm market. I got started this way, by advertising and finding new prospects online. You can achieve success doing this, although it will likely be more expensive initially due to the cost of advertising.

Some people will prefer to start outside their warm market and build credibility first. The bottom line is this - even if you begin by prospecting among your friends and relatives, to build a big business over time, you will eventually have to prospect outside your warm market. The order in which you approach prospects is your decision. Just bear in mind, working outside your warm market initially may result in higher costs for advertising and promotion. The choice is yours - it is your business.
