Investing Your Time Wisely in Network Marketing

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 15th, 2007
It is important to invest your time wisely when working your network marketing business. Many networkers have full-time jobs, families, and other outside time demands. This doesn’t always leave much time for working a business. Thus, good use of your available time is critical to success with your business. Whatever you plan to do for your business at a given time, ask yourself: is what I am going to do directly related to bringing a new associate on board, or making a product sale? These are the things that build your business and your income. The more time you spend directly communicating with prospects and customers, the faster your business is likely to grow. A lot of new network marketing associates spend ...

Network Marketing - Hitting the Wall

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 13th, 2007
There often comes a time when new network marketers experience a surge of discouragement with their business. They start out very enthused and positive, do the right things, but then "hit the wall" when things seem to be developing more slowly than they like. This is very normal. When starting your business, there are high expectations. If you don't feel you're meeting those expectations within a certain time frame, discouragement and sluggishness can set in. Here are three things you can do that help. 1) Know that this discouragement, this feeling of "hitting the wall", will pass. Sometime this is caused by the influence of negative people around you. Ignore them. Don't take business advice from people who are not successful in ...

Your MLM Success Plan

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 11th, 2007
Do you have a MLMSP? This stands for "MLM Success Plan". It refers to what you intend to do on a daily basis to make your MLM business a success. One day at a time, you build your MLM or network marketing business using your MLMSP. Unfortunately, many people in MLM have no success plan, or what they have is weak. Building a strong and growing MLM downline is hard work - and many new associates don't realize that it is consistency in action that is the secret and not just the activities. Consistent activity puts your name and your business out there, and this same consistent activity strongly increases the odds that your MLM business will succeed. The more your name and ...

Keep Planting Seeds - Watch Your Downline Grow

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 10th, 2007
"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant." - Robert Louis Stevenson In network marketing, it is the little things we do each day that are important. Making contacts. Sending information. Responding to questions about our business. Placing new advertising. Prospecting. All of these things are important, and doing them consistently will result in growth for our home-based network marketing businesses. Don't worry if someone didn't sign up today. Keep doing the right things daily, consistently, and the results will come. Prospecting and Harvesting in Network Marketing

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 8th, 2007
Yesterday, I posted an email I sent to an associate who was discouraged because a particular prospect didn't sign up. As a follow-up, this little story illustrates a truth about sponsoring, and being patient as your business grows. It's okay for any given prospect not to sign up. Some will join, some won't, some will later on, and some will delete themselves. You can't focus on the ones that don't join. What if you are a farmer and the first day of spring you go out and plow the field for 10 hours, then come in and talk about how disappointed you are that you didn't get ONE ear of corn! And not ONE bean! And the next day you go out and ...

Don’t Dwell on Network Marketing Prospects

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 7th, 2007
Sometime, network marketers get so anxious to sponsor others into their business, that the importance of each prospect gets over-emphasized. Sure, it would be nice to sponsor all of our prospective associates (people who have responded to our advertising and indicated an interest in starting their own business). In reality, that will never happen. Following is a response I recently sent to one of my downline Watkins associates. This associate had a very promising prospect who (unexpectedly) decided to opt out by clicking a "delete me" link in one of our emails. My associate was very disappointed, but bounced back quickly and is moving on. All names have been changed. Hello Jim, I'm really glad you decided not to call Mr. Jones back. ...

Organizing Your Network Marketing Business

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 5th, 2007
If you've been in network marketing for long, and are working your business seriously, you understand that keeping up with downline and prospective associates can become challenging. You need some sort of method to plan your activities, and keep up with what is going on. Some people work out of notebooks and sticky notes, but that method obviously has strong limitations. :) There are two main ways that I know of to keep things organized. 1) Use a paper-based planning system, such as a Franklin Planner or Day Timer. These are nice, and help keep everything in order. 2) Use a computer-based contact management system that includes time management functions (calendar, appointment scheduler, to-do function, and so forth). I have used both ...

Network Marketing - Your Cold Warm Market

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 4th, 2007
Many new associates in network marketing are told to make a list, and approach their "warm market" first. The warm market is usually defined as friends, family, and people you know and do business with. I've known a few Watkins associates who had decent success approaching their warm market. However, I've known at least as many (probably more) who found their "warm market" to be cold. It is a shame, but sometime the people you know and who are closest to you can be your harshest critics. This is not to say your warm market isn't important. It is. You need to let your contacts know what you are doing, but don't fall into the trap of thinking you can ...

Is Your Home Business a Hobby?

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 3rd, 2007
I'm sure you've heard it often - "to succeed, you have to treat your home business like a business, not a hobby". For those in network marketing and direct sales who wish to achieve a significant income and financial independence, nothing could be more true. A business, and the activities that make it work, have to be priorities in your schedule. A hobby is something you do when you have a little extra time, not necessarily something you do each day. A business has activities and tasks that must be done daily, if you are to be successful. Here are two ways to think about this. 1) If your business were a job, would you likely be promoted, or fired? Don't take ...
