Network Marketing - Your Cold Warm Market

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on March 4th, 2007

Many new associates in network marketing are told to make a list, and approach their “warm market” first. The warm market is usually defined as friends, family, and people you know and do business with. I’ve known a few Watkins associates who had decent success approaching their warm market. However, I’ve known at least as many (probably more) who found their “warm market” to be cold. It is a shame, but sometime the people you know and who are closest to you can be your harshest critics. This is not to say your warm market isn’t important. It is. You need to let your contacts know what you are doing, but don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can build a profitable and long-lasting business from warm market contacts only.

To build your network marketing business bigger, you have to go outside your circle of friends, family, and acquaintances. Here are some easy, low cost ways to get started.

1. Run inexpensive, text-only newspaper ads in small town weekly papers. These ads should be for your business opportunity. These papers are more likely to be read, and people tend to keep them around a few days and look at them more than once.

2. Join Yahoo and other types of discussion groups based on your interests. Become a contributing member of those groups, and use a signature line that includes a link to your opportunity site. Be sure to read and understand each group’s guidelines for signature lines - they are not all the same.

3. Get some nice business cards printed, and have them with you everywhere you go. Give them to people. Post them on public bulletin boards. Have a supply of catalogs and business opportunity information always on hand - you never know when a contact might want details on the spot.

Don’t let a cold and unresponsive “warm market” get you down. In most cases, your best leads and prospects will be found elsewhere.
