Your Home Business - Will Tomorrow Ever Come?
Thanks to Watkins Executives Randy and Jan Robinson for this excellent article and insight into what makes a successful home based business tick. This is Part One.
“The Journey of one thousand miles must begin with a single step.” - Chinese Proverb
Tomorrow. Tomorrow is a very interesting word and concept if you really think about it. What is tomorrow? Today is yesterday’s tomorrow. Tomorrow will be today tomorrow. Does tomorrow actually ever arrive? We can use tomorrow in different ways. Some people live in the today and when they wake up the next day, it’s another “today”. Some people plan for tomorrow but don’t live in the today or do anything to improve their tomorrow.
“Greatest labor-saving device ever invented was ‘Tomorrow’!” - Zig Ziglar
If you’re going to do anything you have to break it into daily activities and you have to get started! Do you know anybody who’s tomorrow just never really arrives and they never get started?
“I’ll get started with my Watkins business just as soon as the kids get back in school, ’cause we have to buy school supplies and this and that and money is just too tight. But soon as they’re back in school I’ll build this thing really fast, ’cause I’ll have a lot more time and money.”
“Yeah, well the kids are back in school now, but the oldest has soccer practice 3 nights a week, another has dance class 2 nights, the youngest is starting little league and has practice twice a week, but as soon as their sports season’s over, I’ll get really busy with this business!”
“Okay, the sports practices and games are over so just as soon as we get back from our family vacation I’m really going to go crazy with this business.”
“Well we’re back from our vacation but I’m really tired and I got behind at work, but as soon as I get rested up and caught up with my work we’re really gonna get this business off the ground!”
“The kids are just about finished with school now, so just as soon as they get out of school and I don’t have to be dropping them off and picking them up and helping with their homework, just as soon as that happens, I’ll put all my effort into this business and we’ll really get it going!”
“The kids are out of school, but the holidays are just around the corner and there’s just so much to do and money’s tight, but as soon as the holidays are over, I’m REALLY gonna get busy and build my Watkins business.”
“Thanks goodness the holidays are over now. But the weather is just so bad! As soon as the weather warms up a bit, I’m going to start working harder than ever on this business!”
“The weather’s cleared up and the family’s been spending some much needed time together on weekends and now it’s just about the time for the kids to go back to school, so just as soon as they’re back in school, I’ll really get this business started!” - and so on and so on and so on….
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
And oddly enough, some people go through that cycle of ‘tomorrows’ and are disappointed that they don’t see any results!
That’s like telling the boss, “Just give me a good raise and I’ll start doing my job and coming to work on time”.
Or, “Lord, let me have a great harvest this year and I promise that next year I’ll plant a crop!”
Or how about, “I’ll call my sponsor, get some training and go to the Watkins conference just as soon as I start making some money with my Watkins business.”
“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” - Henry Ford
