Network Marketing - Dealing with Discouragement

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on January 16th, 2007

One of our top Watkins associates recently presented an excellent training on the subject of discouragement. This was part of the weekly training call that the Summit Group presents each Thursday evening. The specific discussion concerned how Watkins associates can get discouraged in January, when things sometime seem to slow down.

January can be a let-down month, after all the excitement of Christmas and New Years. Some Watkins associates experience excellent business growth in January. Others find that their sales and sponsoring are a bit off, and often get overly concerned. There are times in your MLM or network marketing business when your sales and sponsoring activity will seem to slow up, with no easy explanation. This can make associates, especially those fairly new to the business, become unnecessarily worried.

The fact is, in any business there are up and down cycles that are often not predictable. One person’s sponsoring might skyrocket in January, while another’s drops noticeably.

The bottom line is - don’t worry about it! If you are doing the right things, and taking a steady and consistent approach to your business, everything will average out right. I have been through many short periods when my sales and sponsoring numbers went flat (as compared to the normal month). In all cases, I find that the “slump” lifts within a short time. Most of the time, my numbers after the slump are higher than average and make up for the slow time.

I don’t know why things work this way, but I do know that a down cycle can be discouraging to you. When this happens, keep your eyes focused on your goals, and continue doing the things that have been working for you. The slow time will vanish, and everything will be great again!
