Three Secrets to Sponsoring in Network Marketing
Sponsoring is the key to long-term success in network marketing. If you desire to build a lasting residual income, your focus should be on sponsoring. In Watkins, we believe a blend of product retailing and sponsoring is the best approach. Product sales provide immediate income, and sponsoring provides long-term income that brings you financial and time freedom.
Sponsoring seems hard for many people. I have learned in Watkins that communication is the key to success in sponsoring. The same applies to any network marketing or MLM business. Despite claims to the contrary, you just cannot build a true networking business without ever talking to people or using the phone. Network marketing always has been, and will continue to be, a people business.
Here are three key reasons that people in Watkins, or any other business, fail to sponsor new associates.
1) You are not talking to people. Many associates are simply scared to talk about their business. They have really good intentions, and really believe they will one day sponsor someone, but they sit back and wait for prospects to magically come to them. You have to get the word out, advertise, and then talk to prospects you meet in the process.
2) You are talking to the wrong people. While prospecting for new associates, you will encounter people who are just downright negative. Some will be chronic complainers - nothing is ever “right” for them. I have seen so many try over and over to sponsor people like this. Don’t! Look for prospects who are positive, open-minded, and who get excited about the possibilities of your business. Don’t waste your precious time trying to convince people to sign up. The RIGHT prospect will never have to be “convinced”.
3) You are focusing on yourself, not them. Remember that your prospects are individuals with wants and needs that are unique to them. They want to know what your business can do for them, and how they can be successful with it if they choose to sign up. Always focus on your prospect and find out what they want and need from the business. If you focus on them and help them to be successful, you will be successful as well.
Don’t worry if you are not a big talker. Many people who have done well with Watkins, and other businesses, are quite reserved. They are, however, positive and believe in themselves and their business. Belief and attitude drives success in network marketing more than the “gift of gab” ever will.
