Gourmet Grapeseed Oils by Watkins
Thanks to upline Executives Randy and Jan Robinson for this excellent article on grapeseed oil!
Grapeseed oil is enjoying a rapid rise in popularity today. Although this oil is relatively new to our market, it has been produced and enjoyed in Europe for many years - sold not only as a cooking oil, but also in French pharmacies as a remedy for high cholesterol.
In the days of Cleopatra, women applied the leftovers from winemaking directly onto their skin, and those who stomped grapes at Italian wineries noted the smoothness of their skin. It wasn’t until recently that the anti-aging and skin beautifying properties were attributed to the oil inside the grapeseeds.
So, from lowering cholesterol to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, it turns out that the oil inside those tiny seeds in grapes has a whole “bunch” of benefits! Top chefs are now cooking with grapeseed oil because of its amazing effect on enhancing the natural flavors of food. The late Master Chef, Jean Louis Palladin, noticed that his customers always felt good after a meal cooked in grapeseed oil. It’s one of the few foods known that not only reduces LDL (the bad cholesterol), but raises HDL (the good cholesterol). This helps to keep arteries clear, which may contribute to another benefit of grapeseed oil - its potential to guard against impotence.
Watkins Grapeseed Oil is available in four gourmet flavors—Original, Garlic & Parsley, Citrus & Cilantro, and Black Pepper - and you’ll also find it in our Garlic, Ginger-Garlic and Onion Liquid Spices.
- Low in saturated fat: At 8%, it has only half the saturated fat of olive oil; the lowest of all oils except canola.
- Highest in polyunsaturated fat: (72%), all as linoleic acid (Omega-6), which has the greatest effect in raising HDL (good) cholesterol and lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides (fat carried in the blood).
- Environmentally friendly: Pressed from grape seeds in Italy after wine production, it requires no new farmland or water to produce.
- High flashpoint: Highest flashpoint of all cooking oils; less smoke, less danger of burning and producing free radicals.
- Contains antioxidants - vitamin E, and a group of bioflavonoids known as proanthocyanadins, some of the most powerful known natural antioxidants.
- Excellent as dipping oil and on pastas
- Perfect for sautéing and stir-frying;
- Use as the primary oil in salad dressings and marinades
- Delicious - Unlike canola oil, grapeseed oil has a wonderful, light flavor. Unlike olive oil, its light, neutral flavor won’t clash with certain foods.
