Home Business Blues - Playing the Blame Game

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on December 22nd, 2006

Over the years, I’ve spoken with many people who started a home-based network marketing business and quit long before their business had a chance to develop. I’ve found that many of them played the “blame game”. In this case I am referring to people who joined MLM or network marketing opportunities that are stable and known to be legitimate (not fly by night operations).

Below are a few of the most common excuses I’ve heard from people who have quit their network marketing business. Following each excuse are questions I asked, or wanted to ask.

Excuse #1 - It is the company’s fault. I don’t like the way they do things.

Did you research the company before you got involved? Did you search the Internet for comments, positive and negative, about the company? Did you ask around among people you know if they had heard of the company?

Excuse #2 - The products are not as good as they are supposed to be.

Did you try the products before you paid to start your business? Did you know anyone who used the products regularly? Did you search online for comments about the products?

Excuse #3 - The products are overpriced.

Were the products overpriced when you joined? Did you take a look at a catalog or retail price list before you got involved?

Excuse #4 - The compensation plan doesn’t pay enough.

How much did you expect to make, and how fast? Most fair network marketing compensation plans allow opportunity for the new associate to make income almost immediately, if they choose.

Excuse #5 - My upline did not help or support me.

Did you call your upline, or contact them via email? Did you let it be known that you needed help? Were you just sitting around waiting for someone to call?

I am a firm believer in researching a business opportunity thoroughly first, then jumping in with a good attitude and strong commitment to success. It is our responsibility as network marketers to take charge of our businesses and make success happen. Make the commitment, stay positive, and don’t let excuses stop your march to success!
