Network Marketers - Encourage Your Downline

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on November 10th, 2006

A key mistake that network marketers make is failure to encourage their downline people. As their sponsor or upline, you should take it upon yourself to contact them periodically to offer recognition and encouragement. Nobody likes to sign up and be left all alone - everyone, I believe, feels encouraged when they are recognized and appreciated for their efforts.

You may be like me, an independent type person. I do not need recognition or praise in order to be motivated to work my Watkins business. My reward and motivation is helping others to succeed with Watkins, and building my business to the point where I am totally financially independent. However, I still feel good and appreciate recognition when it comes. I think most people do.

There are different ways to provide encouragement and support. One of the best ways is to give your downline members a personal phone call from time to time. It seems to me that more and more network marketing people are trying to go totally electronic - in the sense that they want to communicate only by email or canned autoresponder messages. Even in our fast-paced high-tech world today, people still appreciate you taking the time to call them. I personally feel that taking time to call someone means even more now than it used to - simply because it has become less common.

Another good way to offer encouragement, support, and recognition is by publishing a regular newsletter that goes out to everyone in your group. This can be done effectively via email. Make it a point to recognize achievements in your newsletter. This can mean more to your downline than you might think.

The bottom line to all this is, don’t neglect encouraging and recognizing your downline associates for their achievements, no matter how small. It can make a world of difference in your business. Failure to communicate and encourage your downline is another of the reasons that network marketers fail to build successful businesses.
