Is Network Marketing for Everyone?

Posted in Watkins Business by Eldon on October 29th, 2006

I am a strong believer in the power and profitability of network marketing. I often see pitches for network marketing opportunities that scream “anyone can do this!” How can this be true? Is network marketing truly a business that is suitable for everyone, as we are sometimes led to believe?

I believe that network marketing is an excellent home based business model. I believe it works for those who choose a solid opportunity like Watkins and genuinely work at it while remaining steadfast and patient as their business grows. However, I do not believe network marketing is for everyone.

A network marketing home based business is not for you if:

1) You don’t feel comfortable working with people. Any way you look at it, network marketing is a people business. Despite some claims, there is no way to build a strong and lasting network marketing business only by email, or autoresponders. Email and autoresponders are valuable tools in building your business, but they are just that - tools. You still have to talk to people (even if you do all your sponsoring online).

2) You are looking for a fast and easy way to get rich working from home. This is one of the reasons that network marketing sometimes gets a bad name - the hype and false promises of those who say “join this ground floor opportunity - huge momentum - thousands joining each day - make money fast, but get in now!” Network marketing offers more long-term residual income potential than just about anything else, but you have to work at it. It takes time. If you are careful, you can be in profit from day one and build a full-time income and more. But, it takes time and doesn’t happen overnight.

3) You prefer the security of an hour worked for an hour of pay. This is what is sometime called the “job mentality”. While there is nothing wrong with an hour worked for an hour of pay (or a set salary for a set number of hours worked each week), you will likely never gain freedom and financial independence this way. Some will, but by the time it happens you are generally old and retired. Do you want to wait that long? I don’t. In network marketing, or any other legitimate home based business, you have to take some risk. You have to invest money and time into your business with no guarantee of return. Not everyone can accept that fact and feel comfortable with it.

So, in the final analysis, network marketing is not for everyone. If you truly desire financial independence, and are willing to be patient and put in the work, give network marketing a try! It could be the answer to your personal and financial dreams.
